Get started with your new Trezor

Download the Trezor Suite application and follow the steps to get your device ready. This guide walks you through installation, device setup, securing the recovery, and moving assets safely.

This is how it works

1

Download Trezor Suite

Fetch the Trezor Suite desktop app or open the web app to begin. Desktop provides the best integrated experience but the web option is available too.

2

Install the app

Follow the platform prompts to install the suite. Installation prepares your system for device communication and secure updates.

3

Set up your device

Plug in your Trezor device, create a new wallet, and generate the recovery in a private setting. The setup process typically completes within 10–20 minutes.

4

Move your assets

Once set up, transfer assets from exchanges or other wallets. Use receive addresses generated on-device and always confirm transactions on the device screen.

Trezor.io/Start — Complete Setup & Secure Transfer Guide

Getting started with a hardware wallet is the most effective step toward taking control of your digital assets. This guide covers the full process of preparing your Trezor device, installing the supporting software, securing your recovery phrase, configuring accounts, and moving assets safely. It is designed for clarity: follow each step patiently and avoid shortcuts.

First, prepare your environment. Choose a private, well-lit workspace free from distractions. Use a personal computer you trust and ensure the operating system is up to date. Disconnect unnecessary peripherals and temporarily disable remote access tools while setting up the wallet for added protection. When ready, download the Trezor Suite desktop app or open the official web application for a guided setup experience.

Next, connect your device and initialize it. The on-screen prompts will guide you to create a new wallet. During initialization the device will generate a recovery phrase — a sequence of words that fully control your wallet. This phrase is the single most critical element: record it physically on the card or paper provided, store it in a secure location, and never share it. Avoid storing the recovery words digitally or online, and never take pictures of them.

After recording your recovery phrase, confirm the words using the device prompts. This verification ensures your recorded sequence matches the device-generated sequence. Create a device pin when prompted; this pin protects local access to the device. Make the pin something memorable but not easily guessed. The device will prompt you to confirm the pin on its screen, adding an extra layer of hardware confirmation.

With the device initialized, open the Suite app to add accounts. Trezor supports many asset types. Within the app you will see options to add accounts for different cryptocurrencies and tokens. Create the accounts you need and label them clearly. When receiving funds, always generate a receive address within the Suite and verify the address on the physical device’s display. This prevents address spoofing from compromised computers or software.

Transferring assets from third-party platforms is straightforward but must be handled carefully. From the platform where your assets currently reside, initiate a withdrawal and paste the receive address from your Trezor Suite. Double-check the full address characters and confirm that the network selected matches the token type. When the transaction is created, the Trezor device will display the destination and amount for you to manually confirm. This step is essential: it proves the device authorizes the movement independent of the computer.

Consider additional layers of protection. Use passphrase features when supported and understand the trade-offs. A passphrase creates a hidden wallet tied to both your recovery words and the passphrase — it is powerful but must be remembered or recorded safely. For larger holdings, explore multi-signature setups or split custody across multiple secure devices. Keep firmware and the Suite application updated; updates often include security improvements and new features.

Finally, create a recovery plan. Store the recovery phrase in a physical safe or secure deposit location. Ensure the plan includes instructions for trusted family or executors in case of emergency, while keeping the details minimal and secure. Periodically verify that backup materials remain readable and intact. Practice safety habits: avoid sharing private keys or recovery words with anyone, and be cautious of unsolicited support that requests seed words or access to your device.

Following these steps will give you a secure and resilient setup, helping protect your holdings from common threats. The process emphasizes on-device confirmations, physical recording of recovery material, and careful handling of transfer addresses. With a proper setup, your hardware wallet becomes a reliable cornerstone for long-term asset safety.
